Network Extension

Sometimes an extension to the networks is required in order to make new connections.

If an extension to the Westpower Network is required, a Customer Initiated Work Request must be submitted to Westpower. This application should include a detailed concept plan outlining:

  • the anticipated load,
  • the intended conductor size,
  • the line or cable route in relation to our network
  • any other relevant information

Westpower will use your concept to determine if the intended extension can be connected to the network. As approval may need significant engineering input, at least 14 working days should be allowed for initial evaluation. Westpower will request information in relation to the application, and in some cases, additional information may be required before approval can be granted.

Westpower will then make its final evaluation of if it will accept the proposed network extension.

If you are a Consumer or Landowner, please engage appropriately qualified Contractors to carry out all required work.

Please note, only Westpower Approved Contractors can work on Westpower assets and Civil Contractors will need to have the correct approvals to work in roading corridors.

If you are the Contractor, please follow the steps as outlined below.

1. Fill out an application: Complete a Customer Initiated Work Request for all Network Extensions.

2. Receive Provisional Approval: Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive Provisional Approval, outlining the requirements of your application. You may need to provide any of the following:

  • Proof of Easement or Land Access (e.g. Lease Agreement, Rail Consent)
  • Corridor Access Request
  • Detailed Design
  • Design Hazard Checklist
  • Resource Consent
  • Payback (this will be calculated by Westpower)

3. Submit Additional Documents: Once you have submitted required documents, these will be reviewed, and following approval you will be given authorisation to begin work.

4. Complete Work: At the completion of work, you will need to submit documentation to Westpower. This may include (but not limited to):

5. Connect to Network: Once final documentation has been provided, the extension will be able to be connected to the Westpower Network. A Westpower Approved Contractor will make the final connection to the Network.

Please note: Only Westpower Approved Contractors are authorised to access Westpower owned assets.
