Non-Domestic Connections

Non-Domestic connections (e.g. factories, workshops, dairy sheds) can have significant impact on our network.

Non-Domestic connections (e.g. factories, workshops, dairy sheds) in the past few years have had an impact on our electricity network. In some cases, power lines and equipment have required upgrading to deliver power to customers in areas with substantial growth.

Having more information about possible development allows Westpower to plan for the future reducing delays in the connection process. All information about possible development will be treated as confidential.

If an extension to our network is necessary, we will require a Conceptual Plan of the proposed extension, and any additional plans, approvals, consents, easement documents. Additional documents and Capital Contributions*may be requested.

*Westpower’s Capital Contribution Policy requires customers to pay the full cost of any network extension. The policy aims to minimize cross-subsidies from existing consumers and ensure fairness for new customers. Westpower provides a transformer at no cost to the consumer and retains ownership and maintenance responsibilities for the new infrastructure.

For more information see our Network Extension Process page.
