Board of Directors
Mike Newcombe - Chairman
Mike Newcombe, former owner and managing director of Newpower Streat, one of New Zealand's biggest nation-wide electrical contracting and servicing companies, has been in the electrical contracting industry for over twenty-five years, after commencing employment with the West Coast Electric Power Board in 1962. Mike established Newpower in 1981 and developed the company into a highly successful enterprise. After the acquisition of Streat Electrical in 1998, Newpower Streat had a turnover of $25 million and employed 180 skilled staff operating from a network of ten customer service bases throughout New Zealand. The Newpower Streat business was sold in 1999 to Tyco International, a corporation with revenues of more than $US35 billion worldwide. Mike now works as a Director and Trustee for a number of organisations.
Hugh Little - Director
Hugh Little, is the former Deputy CEO and General Manager Operations for Westland Milk Products. Hugh has vast project and people management skills and his experience in operational activities and attention to detail provides added value to the Westpower Board. Hugh and his wife Glenda built and own the luxury accommodation and restaurant complex, Stations Inn. In his spare time, Hugh can be found working on the family dairy farm, involved in family activities and takes a keen interest in sport. Hugh has been a Director of Westpower since September 1999.
Suzanne Merriman - Director
Sue Merriman is a Chartered Accountant and Managing Director of Marshall and Heaphy Ltd in Greymouth. Also, as a Director on Timberlands WC Ltd, Sue brings public sector governance skills and private sector financial, commercial and entrepreneurial skills to the Board of Westpower Limited. Sue's skill mix made her the obvious choice as Chair of the Westpower Audit Committee.
Tony Williams - Director
Tony Williams joined the Board in August 2010. As Managing Director of the Williams Group of companies Tony has a proven ability to successfully contribute knowledge on a wide range of business ideas and initiatives. As well as commitments to businesses owned by the Williams Group, Director Tony Williams has past experience on the Boards of Solid Energy New Zealand Limited, Tourism West Coast and Development West Coast. He has held numerous other directorships and had involvement with a significant number of industry bodies bringing experience gained within these roles to his position on the Westpower/ElectroNet Board.
Ross Pickworth - Director
Ross Pickworth joined the Westpower Board in July 2018. After starting his career in the electricity industry as an apprentice, Ross went on to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. He has over 25 years executive general management experience in a range of industries, including the electricity sector, civil/electrical contracting, and the cement and steel industries. Ross now works as an Independent Professional Director and is also on the Boards of Whitestone Contracting Limited and Westroads Limited.
Rob Caldwell - Chief Executive
Chief Executive Rob Caldwell heads up the Executive Leadership Team. He brings over thirty years financial and organisational management experience to the Company, the majority of which has involved organisations providing essential infrastructure. "Our commitment to our community and customers is to continue to grow value adding businesses which provide quality service and a safe, reliable supply of electricity".
Rodger Griffiths - General Manager - Assets & Engineering Services
Rodger is a Professional Engineer with over thirty years experience with the Westpower network and West Coast Hydro Generation schemes. Rodger is the driving force behind the Asset Management team and his knowledge of the electrical industry and its commercial realities provide a great resource for industry players. In addition, his engineering expertise provides customers with the assurance that scoping, design and commissioning of all work is subject to rigorous quality assurance. His involvement with consultancy company, Mitton ElectroNet, offers customers access to Rodger's wide range of skills.
